Closing Women's History Month...

Closing out Women’s History Month the only way that makes sense over here at Blk Desert Doula… rooted, radiant, and a little bit rebellious. ✊🏾✨

Let’s be clear: Black birthworkers have always been the blueprint. Before hospitals, before policies, before “best practices” were trending… there were Black midwives, doulas, and community healers holding it DOWN. Passing knowledge hand to hand. Body to body. Generation to generation.

And despite everything... yes, EVERYTHING, we are still here.

Still catching babies.

Still advocating in rooms that weren’t built for us.

Still translating, protecting, reminding, interrupting, and insisting on dignity.

Here’s some truth for your spirit:

• Black doulas are shown to help improve birth outcomes and lower intervention rates.

• Continuous support during labor? That’s our lane, and it’s linked to safer, more satisfying birth experiences.

• When Black birthing people are supported by culturally aligned care, outcomes shift. Period.

This work isn’t new. It’s ancestral. It’s intuitive. It’s sacred. And yes… it’s also strategic.

Because let’s talk about it... Black birthworkers are not just “support people.”

We are educators.

We are advocates.

We are boundary setters (say it again for the folks in the back).

We are witnesses to one of life’s most powerful thresholds... and we don’t take that lightly.

And if we’re being real?

We’re also a little tired of having to prove why this work matters. 😬

So instead, we’re celebrating.

✨Celebrating the aunties who taught us to listen beyond words.

✨Celebrating the mamas who trusted us with their stories and their bodies.

✨Celebrating the students, the new doulas, the ones just feeling the call, yes, YOU too.

You belong here!!

As we close out this month, here’s your reminder: Your body is not a problem to be solved.

Your birth is not a box to be checked.

Your voice is not optional.

And Black birthworkers?

We’re not going anywhere.

With love, a little side-eye, and a whole lot of intention,

Blk Desert Doula 🌵✨
