Breath, Birth, and Belonging: Reclaiming the Narrative of Care

Birth is our most sacred threshold. It is a moment where the physical and the spiritual collide, a time where life is transformed and a new lineage begins. Yet, for too many in our community, this threshold is crossed in fear rather than in power.

My name is TweetLC, and I founded BLK Desert Doula NM because I believe no family should ever have to walk the path of expansion, or the valley of loss without a witness to their strength and a fierce advocate for their dignity.

As a certified Community Birth and Postpartum Attendant and a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Advocate, I have seen the profound beauty of a supported birth, but I have also seen the cracks in a system that often fails to hold us.

~The Quiet Crisis in Our Neighborhoods

The statistics are heavy: Black women are three to four times more likely to experience pregnancy-related deaths than white women. But behind every data point is a birthing person, a mother, a daughter, and a heartbeat that matters. This disparity isn't a reflection of our bodies; it is a reflection of a system that too often fails to see our humanity.

~Changing the Frequency of Care

BLK Desert Doula NM was born to change that frequency. We offer culturally rooted, heart-centered support that honors the intuition of the birthing person. We aren't just here to assist; we are here to empower, to listen, and to protect the peace of the birthing room.

~Equity in the Birth Room

I believe that a safe, supported birth is a fundamental human right, not a privilege reserved for those with the deepest pockets. Yet, the support that saves lives is often treated as a luxury. Many families who need a doula’s presence the most are the ones priced out of the care they deserve.

~How You Can Stand With Us

We are committed to providing free and low-cost care to those navigating the system without a safety net, but we cannot do this work in a vacuum. Your support allows us to keep our doors open. When you donate to BLK Desert Doula NM, you are directly funding hours of advocacy, hands-on postpartum healing, and the life-changing presence of a doula for a family in need.

Together, we are doing more than funding a service, we are healing the lineage of birth in New Mexico.

Thank you for standing with us, for your spirit, and for believing that every birth deserves to be beautiful.

With deep gratitude,

Taryn “TweetLC" Liner-Chapman
